Awesome. First film I want to see in several years.

By Blogger Damon, at Friday, September 26, 2008 5:28:00 PM

I'm not sold. The last thing I want to do when I go to the movie theater is #1 reinforce a view I share with the producer and #2 feel like I'm in a lecture. To each their own.

no way, this looks awesome. i can't wait to see it, it looks like an extension of some of his HBO stuff. he's really funny.

the answer is religion

if i wanted to be rich, i'd do something that both got people excited, motivated and rallied everyone behind an honest cause.  if i was honest.

what if i wasn't? what if all i wantedto do was make a buck by lying, cheating,  stealing, and conducting all business that i do in that moral grey area, or by just being a total douchebag?

next point.  today was the next to last day of the black ops special project hitman at my company. his contract runs out tomarrow and he will be leaving us forever. we went out to celebrate and have a few drink with people from work to wish him well.  it was a typical work function, nothing exciting or mindblowing, but a few drinks at the local bar. i'll be sad to see him go. we started out on the wrong foot but i've done a lot of work with him since then and i can honestly say i've learned somthing from him. he's been a great influence on my life and i'll be greatful for that. when i decide to rule the world, he's a person i'll go looking for because i can trust him to do a great job and he's not an idiot. we didn't often agree but i'll always fight him on stuff because thats just hte way i am.

he paid me more then one great compliment tonight while drinking with many people who control my future at this company and i greatly apreciated it.  at the end of hte night it was myself, the special project hitman and my boss, drinking and talking about hte future (because at this point we were each a little drunk).  one of the things i think i've alway impressed this guy with, is that i'll tell him NO.  if i think differently, or just don't sgree, i'll say No in a meeting. in front of a lot of people.  i take plenty of chances (RE: i have been fired twice you know) in front of my bosses and this guy was one of the few who admired it. i'm going to keep in touch with this guy because its in my best interest both personally and profesionally. he could easily lead me to a great job and he will also be a great resource for decades to come.

professionally there are a few people like this that i will always keep contact information for. they've either been a great help in the past or i expect to cross paths with them in the furture. life is a crazy journey that will take you to many different places. what a long strange trip it's been.

damn it, i'm drunk. and now high. oops

don't swear at your kids

is this one right up there with "garbage goes in the garbage can"?

yesterday morning while brushing my teeth, i over hear some yelling outside, not unusual in this neighborhood but still a little early for this type of verbal confrontation.  it was the new family next door to me. the mother was yelling at the kids to get ready and get in the car. all normal so far. but then i think one of the kids punched the other and one started crying. OK so you discipline the kids right? maybe spank them or take away desert, what ever it is, its not verbally abusing your kid with words i wouldn't use around a pirate.  this lady ripped into the poor kid and just started swearing at him. "what the fuck do you think you're doing you piece of shit, don't hit your fucking brother like that!" she called him a loser too. it was harsh. my parents have sweared at me before (usually justified) but i was older and deserving. these are like 3rd graders.

is it really that hard not to swear at your kids?

Did I really save 32$ on my 45$ Big Y bill tonight?

Or are groceries that overpriced?

I'm sure everyone reading this, whether they be 10 ot 30 years old thinks that they are living in some unique time in history with "global catastrophes" lurking at every corner. The president has been deemed insane by the public, hurricanes and natural disasters are abundant, 100 year old banks are going under, people are losing their homes, we are still at war....

Its seems that gloom and doom is just a page away. One would think that the culture of greed appears to have caught up with the best of them. The Fed finally showed some back bone in not bailing out Lehman Brothers bank today. I'm very happy for that. Unfortunately it looks like later this week they will cut interest rates by 1/4 percent. Precisely the opposite of what they should be doing. There is serious panic in the stock market and many banks (including my own) are seriously over exposed to America's debt. Better hope that you don't have a life insurance policy with AIG. I'm sure the government will not allow the economic market to collapse at any cost. This might be a good time to re-read 1984, or if you haven't read it yet, entertain yourself.

So inlight of all the news today I called my bank to ask if my account was insured by the FDIC. Yay, it was! Some figures estimate that the federal government has 50 billion in assets to insure roughly 1 billion in savings. Draw your own conclusions...

i'm not too worried about the banks in this country, yet. i'm still hoping the dem's take over. HA!

groceries are over priced. i stopped going to the local big Y here because the produce sucks. i'm begrudgingly back to stop and shop. i do get cheaper gas there though which is a nice bonus.

Don't get too excited about the dems in office. Whoever gets the next term faces a shithole of an economy. If you are a Obama supporter I'd cut your losses and suggest letting McCain take the next 4 years on the chin.

I'm not voting because I don't like either candidate.

By Blogger ron, at Tuesday, September 16, 2008 11:28:00 PM

Ok Ron don't vote for Pres, but vote for the state people who have more impact on your life even though no one knows their names.

good point damon.

how's the house thing going?

By Blogger ron, at Thursday, September 18, 2008 10:22:00 PM

Closing was originally going to be 8/1 and still hasn't happened. I already live in it though, so it doesn't make a big difference.

stupid football players

so i read today that sean merriman is done for the season. gee, who'd have seen this coming. he had TWO torn ligaments in he knee coming into the season and tried to "play though the pain".  my pesimistic over under was 2 games.  he lasted 1 before season ending surgury.  i'd want my money back if i was the chargers. he should have done this months ago rather then agravate the injury and wait til the season stated.  what he has isn't some kind of freak injury that no one's ever seen before. it takes 18 months to come back ready from it and he decided to wait 6 so that not only does he ruin this season for the chargers, he fucks up next year too.

i do feel bad for brady, but thems the breaks. i'd feel worse about it if i ididn't have to hear about the pats TWICE as much now as when he wasn't hurt. yeah, thier season is screwed, but i can't say its totally over or that they can't make the playoffs without him.  i just don't want to thear about it.

and i'm already sick of hearing the farve comparisons for aaron rodgers. that poor bastard isn't capable of living up to that, no one is. just lay off him.

Matt Cassels! I picked him up in my league.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Wednesday, September 10, 2008 12:15:00 PM

nice pickup brancy. i didnt do a league this year, mainly out of general malaize. i like fantasy football because you adjust the roster once a week, but after a certain number of rounds in the draft i just dont know enough about the players.

i'm bummed about brady but i agree, i'm also sick of hearing about it. it's done and he's done for the year. we'll make the best we can with cassel in the meantime, and then brady will come back.

new software

i hear googles got a new web browser so i figured i'd check it out. not bad, not bad at all. its fast and slick, a little inventive and not ready for mass usage yet. the scroll wheel on my mouse doesn't go up with it. more frustrating then i expected it to be.

the news story broke before google was ready to have a billion pepole use it. it shows. i'll hold further judgement until a full realse launches as its still only beta 0.2

i gave openoffice a better chance the other day, until i realized it didn't have a calender function like i wanted, so i found mozill's Sunbird instead, rock solid, but i'm back to usingt firefox with it. there is no escape, all software is needed. you can't avoid any of it, or its add-on's. damn it.

i've been looking for beer third party alternatives to normal software products and now expect all software to be free. as it should be. we shouldn't be paying for software anymore then minor transaction fees. any suggestions? i don't want ot hear some crazy rant about unix either, just helpful suggestions please.

yea I agree. Why pay software developers any salary at all? I mean it's my god given right to have free software/music/tv. You'd work for free right?

By Blogger ron, at Thursday, September 04, 2008 11:39:00 PM

Something about Unix would be a crazy rant indeed, because it's not free and hardly anyone uses it, unless you count Mac users since that's based on Unix. Linux on the other hand..I haven't bought a program in 5 years, and haven't stolen any either. Not just free, it is versatile, and endlessly customizable, stable, and doesn't need anti-virus or anything like that, it is fast and light. One thing I've really gotten used to is a function of the free software. When I want a new program, it's downloaded and installed right away. No going to stores, or worrying about reading reviews and such because I'm only making a small time investment, not a monetary one. What's crazy is how almost everyone pays MS for their crap product that keeps getting worse, then forks over more to make it secure, and doesn't think about looking for an alternative.

By Blogger Damon, at Friday, September 05, 2008 8:16:00 PM

Damon don't undermine my point. I'm not talking about your silly small linux apps.

By Blogger ron, at Friday, September 05, 2008 10:20:00 PM

Ron's point is totally valid. There's some things no amount of volunteer effort will produce. Linux software is lacking in GIS, 3D modeling, CAD, some would say there's nothing comparable to Photoshop or Dreamweaver. Big programs like this need years of well funded development.

By Blogger Damon, at Monday, September 08, 2008 7:11:00 PM

we're a long way from seeing open source CAD and photoshop programs. those do take years to develop.

computers are being moved towards total online everything. who needs a hard drive when the internet can store it for you? soon the personal computer will be no more then a means to connecting to the internet. at that point, everything you do will be advertising driven. this is where google will excel. they've already bought a bunch of small companies that make good software products and just find ways to incorporate thier ads. the program is free, just look at the ad. if it wasn't for that, this website wouldn't exist. google runs shit. oops, i'm the one with the crazy rant.

ron, its not as simple as working for free. don't be a republican.

electricity in the air

can you smell it? its september, and that means baseball and politics. fuck yeah. the yanks are done for so thats a waste of time talking about. i'll chime backin during the offseason to see who they try and sign, but thats about it for me and baseball this year.  politics on the other hand....

was i the only one rooting for the levees to break during the RNC? is that bad?

palin? this is some kind of fucked up joke right? right? they keep putting her on the news and telling me she was mcains VP pick but all i hear is "President Obama, you have a call on line 3, its mcain again, he wants more money, what should i tell him?"

my first thought was histarical laughter, followed by joy, and then the sick realization that this election is now about blackman vs. woman and who the american people hate more.  i was in VT over the weekend and heard multiple harsh reminders that this country really does still hate black people. i guess any woman but hillary is OK Right? fuck. but then a ray of hope again, whats this? a lawsuit over firing an ex brother in law? and now a pregnant unwed teenage daughter? holly crap this is the gift that just keeps on giving. i can't wait to hear the next talking point after "Executive Experience".  mayor of a city? really? that town is smaller then the ass backwards town i'm from in VT. mayor is generally a position that no one runs against.  i guess that's all it takes to be qualified for president to the republicans.  i agree with paul begala, this is an insult.

Don't forget about Football! Hoo ha!

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Wednesday, September 03, 2008 8:44:00 AM

yeah i realized that right after i posted. usually i ignore the first few weeks of the football season because the yanks are in the playoffs, but this year is different.

on a follow up to the politics, go fuck yourself Joe Lieberman, i watched some of his speech last night at the RNC, not the DNC mind you, he still claims to be a democrat. i call bullshit! the speech was mind boggling on so many levels i hurt my head and then i went back to watching the shield.

By Blogger Supreme Monkey Overlord, at Wednesday, September 03, 2008 5:32:00 PM

for more hilarious political commentary, watch the rerun of tonights daily show and colbert report. some fantastic clips of republicans directly contradicting statements they have made in the past. most have to do with the pick of palin, but there are a few others too. and jon stewart's comparison of fred thompson to foghorn leghorn is pretty much spot on.

now i wont pretend that these shows are impartial. i just had to throw it out there before someone went all smartass and argued that they're part of the liberal media. no shit. but it's still hilarious. and some of these contradictions are so direct that there really isn't anyway to dispute it, regardless of video editing.

By Blogger josh, at Wednesday, September 03, 2008 11:44:00 PM

Yes, the Daily Show on 9/3 was hilarious! They showed so many hypocritical statements I couldn't believe it. Foghorn and droopy dog was good too.
