Nintendo

I had faith and sure enough they pulled through. The Wii is a huge success and the DS is awesome. I've been playing Zelda for the DS and I highly recommend. If you liked Zelda for 64...its similar to that style but of course incorporates the new DS system. Its really creative so far taking things way out of the box. I dont want to spoil anything, but it just does completely new things. Its making me think different. I mean if all the other systems are like normal everyday sober people in society...the DS and Wii are the ones doing shrooms and writing poetry. Its a whole new way of thinking and doing things. Anyway, when i finish Zelda i'll hand it over for someone else.

Man Challenge: One Day Christamas Shopping

Current presents bought: 0
Time til christmas: 14 hours and counting
Man points available: 3

This challange is obvious to all men. the last minute christmas gifts. i haven't bought anything yet and its almost noon. lets do this! whats the over under on me forgettting something and having to buy it tomarrow? i'd give my self a healthy 70/30 split. i think i'll be ok but lets find out. today i throw myself at the mercy of the holiday crowds and fight every other slacker in america at our big box stores and malls. bring it america. ITS ON!

God speed sir! You may be earning a few man points if you pull this one off. I was spent after one store and couldn't imagine having to go to more. Luckily, i was able to order half my stuff online to cut the burden. Sure i paid excessive amounts for 1-day shipping, but thats my pain for waiting till the last minute.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Monday, December 24, 2007 10:57:00 AM

UPDATE: Success!!

it only took 5 hours but i did it all today. i got the same amount of crap for everyone and didn't break the bank. i was actualy surprised to not have that much trouble today. bestbuy was a mad house and so was the amll but all the other stores i went in were ok. are people really not the procrastinating slackers i suggest they are? i think not. there were a few things that i wasn't able ot get but over all everything i thought of was available and i was able to find crap to fill in.

i was hoping to do all my shopping online this year but i just never got around to it, like every year. part of it is that i'm just not in the holiday spirit this year. for whatever reason it just doesn't feel like christmas. my thanksgiving was kind of a bust so maybe thats it. either way, i think i achieved all three man points today. mission accomplished

By Blogger Supreme Monkey Overlord, at Monday, December 24, 2007 8:40:00 PM

sounds like my shopping. i planned to do it all on saturday, but lunch with joe and amanda turned into a 2.5hr ordeal. i went to a few stores and got a few things, but i definitely had to finish it on sunday, along with my sister and a hangover.

good seeing everyone at ron's. that was awesome, hangover notwithstanding.

The Six Sigma Life

i've been wondering about this from time to time for a while now. i can't say i use a lot of the stuff i do at work in my everyday life outside of work. Such as six sigma. i've never cared to figure out how to apply it to other things. but today it hit me while dripping water on the floor in my parents bathroom, struggling to figure out what towel to use. "Why the fuck don't they just label these?!?" and it hit me. if the towel just said "Hands" on it with another that said "Face" and another indicator for "fresh/clean" and "used-once"we'd be all set. its not just for speed but for simplification of small exchanges of info. like the fact the towel is for hand or face with the quick glimpse, or green for clean and the back side yellow for good and not so good. six sigma has been taking place in the kitchen for a long time, the knife block for example, or a good spice rack. bam! standardization is the key. it'd be possible for any old stranger to walk into a totally new place and feel comfortable with everything correctly labeled and placed or easily identifiable.

the more i think of it the more it sounds great, but i see it taking a dark path towards totalitarianism and police states. damn you creativity. how dare art stand in the way of my efficient bathroom experience

the world is run by lunatics

sorry, but this made me laugh out loud. just read all the head lines and tell me if I'm crazy. the headlines just seem out of place when they are all together like that. this type of thing really makes me wonder what "news" is.

yeah, what qualifies as "news" these days is pretty much complete bullshit. it seems to be a combination of the same political news as the day before and celebrity gossip. everyone seems to wonder how americans can idolize all of these scandalous celebrities. i wonder if they notice the irony of how much attention they pay to them. it would be one thing if all the articles were negative, but many try to justify bad decisions or even gain sympathy.

By Blogger josh, at Wednesday, December 19, 2007 9:58:00 PM

i agree totally, but what i was trying to get at was what the smaller headlines to the right say. what i would assume for CNN.com is that the biggest news story of the day should come in that big box, not a throw away headline on the right. like the fact that the headline: "Congressman: Iraq lawless like wild west" is sandwiched between two articals whose headlines read; "Kids holiday gala marred by parent melee" and "Amputee boy walks again; My life is Back!"

its like real news stop happening and if they can't sensationalize it its not worth my time. gee, a 16 year old redneck is pregnant, is that really headline news? parent melee? that one has me asking a million questions, like what the fuck is a "kids holiday gala"? what kind of parents get into fights at shit like this, and why on earth is it headline news worthy to tell the world? and why the fuck am i going to be pulling my hair out trying to think of a way to break it to my kids that britney spears little idiot sister is pregnant?!?!?! is this what they think people worry about at night? maybe i shouldn't sleep so well.

By Blogger Supreme Monkey Overlord, at Thursday, December 20, 2007 5:33:00 PM

damn, i was hoping this one would generate more discussion, i thought it was a really funny portrait of cnn.com, oh well

By Blogger Supreme Monkey Overlord, at Monday, December 24, 2007 8:43:00 PM

I'm surprised there is less outrage as well. But then again, we're a jaded and cynical group of people (at times).

I agree. It's fucked up, se la vi.

holiday schedules

I'm going to be going to VT Saturday, coming back Wednesday, weather permitting. i think I'm going to miss just about everyone. who's going to be home when? this is my yearly problem at Christmas and thanksgiving. this is the one time of year everyone comes home and it the one time of year i have to leave to go home. this year is good too, i've got 11 days off at this place. its our plant shut down.

my company is going through a sale to a Norwegian company and one of the rumors floating around was that we weren't going to have a christmas break because they don't celebrate christmas in Norway. my jaw dropped when i heard this in a serious context. the guys who work o nteh floor at any manufacturing facility are a totally different breed. i don't know where they come up with this stuff.

haha nice. i'll be back over the weekend and then only for xmas eve thru xmas day. i have to work both the 24 and 26 because i'm a relatively new hire and everyone requested those days off around this time last year.

unrelated question: i still post on my blog and all, but do any of you read that? i love that this one is picking up again and i'm thinking of posting here a bit more than i do now, but i was wondering what you guys think? anyone come over?

By Blogger josh, at Wednesday, December 19, 2007 9:55:00 PM

i stalk, can't say i read it all. i do check it out and i have the links next to each other in my list. of course i've had a hard enough time getting shit up on this one so i can't say i'm in a rush to post elsewhere. sorry.

new dog huh? santos doesn't look happy. i'm guessing he's not ready for this. he's still kind of young though so maybe he'll be able to keep up with the pup.

By Blogger Supreme Monkey Overlord, at Thursday, December 20, 2007 5:41:00 PM

Got home tonight (Thurs). I'll be here till next Saturday (29th). No solid plans but i'll be around.

nothing like smoking and drinking 40's in the hood

some people would say where i'm living is the ghetto. this part of town is known for that. there's an old lumber mill behind me, a couple of white college girls living next to me, a real nice white couple living below me, an apartment house across the street where no one is ever home in, and 3 churches within walking distance, masonic symbols all over the place, the guy i'm renting from owns 4 of the houses on this short street and its never noisy. this part of town is awesome if anything. its not a bad neighborhood, it just has a bad rep. the houses are old and not exactly in top shape but the people here are nice, its and old part of town, and i haven't even seen anything close to a problem around here. the worst thing i've seen so far is a group of black people hanging out on the corner up the road by the T-ville mini mart. so far harmless. i have nothing else to say. i don't remember the point of this rant. i just liked the headline.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Wednesday, December 19, 2007 12:27:00 PM

yes, black people are dangerous, and yes, as a paranoid white man i do feel safer around people of my own color. my racism doesn't hide below the surface, it right out there with everything else. fuck you and your shame.

Chumps right

We've all been slacking on the WM. Funny, i still check the damn thing mulitple times a day. Its been almost 3 weeks since the last post and yet i still check it. Sure i've been meaning to write too, but i've been busy. Busy with the job, the house, the kids, the girlfriend, the video games, the booze, the drugs, the sweet sweet drugs. And yeah, I dont really have the writing drive like i used to anymore. I dont have the slick benders which drove me writing absurdities of my college days. Maybe its because our lives are more boring these days. We all have jobs, we get up, we come back and do it all over again. But still thats no excuse. We cant let the patterns kill our livelihood that made us so great Thats happened to too many people. Let it not happen to you.

Matt Barone: once again, out of the stone ages

i'm back. back on the internets. watch out internet porn servers, i'm connected once again.

after an hour of me and the cable guy deciphering every fucking cable ever made, now located in my basement, it was clear to us that who ever ran the 6 cable lines into this house must have been fucking crazy. So now i'm connected to the modern age once again. I can't say i missed much in 3 weeks.

Being disconnected from the life blood that is the internet was kind of nice. no TV, no internet, no nothing. so what did i do with all my new found free time??? smoke pot and play Civ. thats it. my new place isn't any more or less picked up than when i moved in and i haven't done anything extravagant or time consuming. 3 weeks, a bunch of games of civ and a few wins to show for it. totally worth it.

i promise, more posting. i won't let this site die. and neither should you. i know most of you are lurking out there, afraid to post. Well, i'm inviting you to post, please, tell us something, anything. there are people waiting to read it. And no matter what you have to say, it can't be any worse then what i've just written. so feel free to take up space here, its free. use it.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Monday, December 17, 2007 10:42:00 PM

its a guy i work with. he's the IT guy at work, pretty cool guy, reminds me of an older looney in a way (see i didn't use your first name). It takes me 12 minutes to go door to door from work. fucking sweet. fuck traffic man, fuck it. i feel like a fucking retarded sheep for sitting in traffic when i could be doing anything else like poking myself in the eye with a stick instead of sitting in traffic and be happy. or at least have ag ood story to tell.

A Brief History of America

A funny cartoon from "Bowling For Columbine" by Michael Moore

The Cartoon, its funny told to us by our friendly Mr. Bullet.

While in another part it talk about...

"What a Wonderful World"

The film then cuts to a montage of American foreign policy decisions, with the intent to contradict McCollum's statement by citing examples of how the United States has (in Moore's view) frequently been the aggressor nation. This montage is set to the song "What a Wonderful World" performed by Louis Armstrong.

The following is an exact transcript of the onscreen text in the Wonderful World segment:

  1. 1953: U.S. overthrows Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq of Iran. U.S. installs Shah as dictator.
  2. 1954: U.S. overthrows democratically-elected President Arbenz of Guatemala. 200,000 civilians killed.
  3. 1963: U.S. backs assassination of South Vietnamese President Diem.
  4. 1963-1975: American military kills 4 million people in Southeast Asia.
  5. September 11, 1973: U.S. stages coup in Chile. Democratically-elected President Salvador Allende assassinated. Dictator Augusto Pinochet installed. 5,000 Chileans murdered.
  6. 1977: U.S. backs military rulers of El Salvador. 70,000 Salvadorans and four American nuns killed.
  7. 1980s: U.S. trains Osama bin Laden and fellow terrorists to kill Soviets. CIA gives them $3 billion.
  8. 1981: Reagan administration trains and funds "contras." 30,000 Nicaraguans die.
  9. 1982: U.S. provides billions of dollars in aid to Saddam Hussein for weapons to kill Iranians.
  10. 1983: The White House secretly gives Iran weapons to kill Iraqis.
  11. 1989: CIA agent Manuel Noriega (also serving as President of Panama) disobeys orders from Washington. U.S. invades Panama and removes Noriega. 3,000 Panamanian civilian casualties.
  12. 1990: Iraq invades Kuwait with weapons from U.S.
  13. 1991: U.S. enters Iraq. Bush reinstates dictator of Kuwait.
  14. 1998: Clinton bombs "weapons factory" in Sudan. Factory turns out to be making aspirin.
  15. 1991 to present: American planes bomb Iraq on a weekly basis. U.N. estimates 500,000 Iraqi children die from bombing and sanctions.
  16. 2000-2001: U.S. gives Taliban-ruled Afghanistan $245 million in "aid."
  17. Sept. 11, 2001: Osama bin Laden uses his expert CIA training to murder 3,000 people.
18. We all know that one.... and the other one.... and some other ones...
