my new job is going to be at the place located on the map, in bridgeport. i got a good offer today and i think i'm going to take it. as much so because it's the first offer i've had and it would be a nice one for a while. even if i'm only there for a year it would be good to do, its a supplier quality engineer position and most of the suppliers are in state. should be fun for a little while, getting to check out new places is always a good time. plus i don't mind the travel.
i need a place to live down there. anyone got any suggestions? i;d like to stay along the merit parkway or even 91/95 if i could. i don't really want to live in bridgeport as its a scummy town but some of the surrounding areas are pretty good. i wouldn't even mind living downtown new haven if i could find a good place. cities are good and new haven is a good one. i've been told that wallingford is do-able but it can be a 60 min commute some days. i'd like to avoid that if possible but at the same time i'd rather not make my commutes to see my friends an epic event.
i'll be a lot closer to NYC here, perhaps i should get some yankee tickets....

i pre-ordered an iphone 4 this morning. it was a tough decision over the droid incredible. i've had verizon long enough that i'd have a nice upgrade discount but in the end, the iphone is just too awesome, verizon no longer works in VT for me, battery life is important, and i can live without flash on my
phone. i'm excited for the upgrade in phone tech as it'll be a big one for me. i've been looking at iphone apps and prepping my new tech life. expect more mobile posts and modern tech apps. part of updating the website was in prep for getting an iphone. i'll be posting more and adding more links to videos, facebook and twitter feeds and generally expecting a more interactive web. the way it should be. i'm expecting to spend at least 2 days a week on the road with this job so there should be a lot more mobile updates. the iphone will help that. and i need someone else to get one to use the facetime app, seriously, its the best video phone ever.
congrats on the new job!
as far as places to live go, weston and some areas west are nice, but as you pointed out, further from friends (and i have no idea about cost of living). i dont know much about hamden or north haven, but they seem to be close by. depending how bad the traffic on 95 is thru new haven branford or guilford might even be reasonable choices too.

trying something different

thought i'd try a new layout on for size today. i can't get he comments to show up like they used to and i'm going to add some more to the right hand side. it certainly needs some tweeks. let me know what you like and don't like in the comments here. i'm totally open to suggestions.
ok, i've been working on putting comment's visible on the front page all day and it doesn't look like its possible. blogger turned it off with the new layouts and unless i go back the the old style it isn't going to happen. it was a happy accident before and now i can't get it back.
i can't get eh youtube channel to work like i want it too. i have a you tube account set up for likeing/favorite videos being shared here on the blog but it doesn't seem to want to show them, only videos from youtube's most popular/ most viewed lists.
i love the new background and the new ease of use, but i think that pales in comparison to the major item of not seeing comments on the front page. i'd like to have a youtube account connected to the blog but if i can't control whats on the feed it's pointless.
The background image is making it sluggish. Not worth it in my opinion. I also like the comments on the page.
i agree with Branci. Lets go back to the old style. Visible comments were a nice feature.
world cup

i'm going through my once every 4 year ritual of forcing myself to watch the world cup. this sport is so big and popular the world round that i can't just ignore its biggest event. but its just so terrible. i keep trying and trying to like soccer but i just can't. its not the speed of the game, i love baseball which is just as slow. its not the foreign factor. i just don't think they are any good. i watch hockey and basketball and can tell that there is some kind of strategy and plan of action on the court/ice. in soccer i just don't see it other than play for the 0-0 tie. the ridiculous hold on to dear life for that one goal style of play is infuriating. you'd have a better chance of winning if you just fucking scored again! if they score in the first minute, its then 89 mins of waiting it out. i never see the types of plays or passes you would see in hockey, or the type of coordinated attack it might take to get a good shot on goal. far too many missed chances, bad passes, and sloppy play for me to be interested. i'm always a fan of a good game, but i just don't see it here. i'm going to keep trying and i'm by no means an expert on the game. i'd love to see the US win it or at least do good. its the one sport we can't dominate for some reason. no excuse!
PS: those fucking horns need to go too. the whole game sounds like a bee hive. how annoying is that?
oh yeah, don't even get me started on the flop in this sport, get up you fucking pussies. that's a trend which can't stop soon enough. you fell down, stop acting like the just killed your dog and cut off your arm. its so fake too, nonsense
Well im totally into the World Cup. For good passing the Spanish are tops(but lost to the Swiss), for coordinated attack the Chilians looked good, (but didnt manage to get a 2nd goal today).
Its not "my" sport either, but its fun and i work with so many international people it gives me something to talk about at work.
And there all morning games so i get to watch.
GOOOOO North Korea!!!!
Yeah it's alright. I like any good game no matter the sport. I think part of the problem is that it is so long without any breaks. That makes it pretty boring. I've been watching the US games.

The second phase of the Mars500 simulated mission to the Red Planet launched this morning as six men -- a Frenchman, an Italian, one Chinese man and three Russians -- were locked inside a 19,500-cubic-foot facility outside of Moscow, where they will remain for the next 520 days.
there's a joke in there somewhere.. threee russians, a frenchman, two pieces of euro trash and chinaman walk into a bar....
the real question here is who dies first?
also, does this mean there won't be an american on the first manned mars mission?

Feds meet with film director Cameron on oil spill
WASHINGTON — "Top kill" didn't stop the Gulf oil spill. How about something "titanic"?
Federal officials are hoping film director James Cameron can help them come up with ideas on how to stop the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The "Avatar" and "Titanic" director was among a group of scientists and other experts who met Tuesday with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for a brainstorming session on stopping the massive oil leak.
The Canadian-born Cameron is considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies. "Avatar" and "Titanic" are the two highest-grossing films of all time.
Really?? It's down to this?
We will just wait for all the oil to come out. Why pump it, ship it, refine it, ship it, distribute it, and carry it around in little fuel tanks to burn when you could cruise the Gulf of Mexico with no fuel tank, burning the crude oil as you go!
Seriously a film director? Even the government can't separate reality from entertainment? Good thing BP made a $5B profit last year, let's hope they are made to pay for everything.
in Cameron's defense, when he filmed titanic he had to invent all the cameras he used. he and his brother started a company to make the remote operated vehicles and high pressure resistant cameras used to film the sunken ship. a side effect of it was that he's now one of the world leaders in remote controlled vehicles like the ones they are using to get down to the leak. its actually a good thing he's involved. this was before he pioneered digital 3D cinema too.
i just think its ridiculous that this thing is still leaking. there is really no excuse at this point.
damon, remote operated oil skimmers which run on the oil they collect, its almost like perpetual motion!
