Feds meet with film director Cameron on oil spill
WASHINGTON — "Top kill" didn't stop the Gulf oil spill. How about something "titanic"?
Federal officials are hoping film director James Cameron can help them come up with ideas on how to stop the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The "Avatar" and "Titanic" director was among a group of scientists and other experts who met Tuesday with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for a brainstorming session on stopping the massive oil leak.
The Canadian-born Cameron is considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies. "Avatar" and "Titanic" are the two highest-grossing films of all time.
Really?? It's down to this?
We will just wait for all the oil to come out. Why pump it, ship it, refine it, ship it, distribute it, and carry it around in little fuel tanks to burn when you could cruise the Gulf of Mexico with no fuel tank, burning the crude oil as you go!
Seriously a film director? Even the government can't separate reality from entertainment? Good thing BP made a $5B profit last year, let's hope they are made to pay for everything.
in Cameron's defense, when he filmed titanic he had to invent all the cameras he used. he and his brother started a company to make the remote operated vehicles and high pressure resistant cameras used to film the sunken ship. a side effect of it was that he's now one of the world leaders in remote controlled vehicles like the ones they are using to get down to the leak. its actually a good thing he's involved. this was before he pioneered digital 3D cinema too.
i just think its ridiculous that this thing is still leaking. there is really no excuse at this point.
damon, remote operated oil skimmers which run on the oil they collect, its almost like perpetual motion!
