Girl with the dragon tatoo, book/movie

i'm a little pissed. i read the book on vacation in mexico and i just watched the movie. the book was slow to start but picked up in a hurry and had some very good scenes that set the tone and left an impression. the movie failed to deliver on both fronts and left me wanting more. it felt rushed ans didn't do the book justice. reading the book i felt it was slow to start and far too much of it was background info until it all came together and ended up great. the movie rushed the good parts and left me confused. if i hadn't read the book i would have been lost in the movie and the subtle parts were none existent. the book started slow and the movie was set at a constant speed.  ten years ago i would have said this was a great movie that moved quickly and left me wanting to read the book. it would have been to smart for me. i liked those movies that moved fast and seemed too smart for me to understand. this one was different, i liked the book and read it first.he movie was slow and didn't live up to expectations. the actors were fine. they didn't stand a chance against the bad script and bad editing.
i need a laptop. right now i can't afford the laptop i want but maybe the laptop i need. i need a laptop that can surf the net with ease and handle pictures, video and normal work stuff with ease. games are one of the worse drains on PC performance and i don't need games to run on this thing. i'm looking for a functional typing laptop with roughly a 111.1" screen. i want portable and long battery life. i want to sit at a Starbucks all day and drink coffee until i'm numb and write the great american novel. is that so much to ask?

Robbery!

my car got broken into last night! kate and i got home around 1 from her parents house and went to bed. around 5 we heard a car alarm going off in the parking lot outside my windows. this is a common occurrence around my building, usually no big deal but Kate jumped up and ran to the window. me, running on 4 hr's sleep just ignored it and rolled over. "oh my god that's your car!" she ran into the kitchen and grabbed my keys and then back to the window where she pressed every button on my key chain thing. "there's someone in your passenger seat!" "huh...wha..?" the next thing i heard was the slapping of footsteps running across the parking lot. she had locked the doors of the car and hit the panic button. this scared off the guy in my passenger seat and scared the shit out of his buddy on the driver side and they both ran. she got a bit of  a look a the two but we went outside to see what had happened. she thought it looked like a couple of white guys in their mid twenties wearing jeans and tee shirts. we called 911 right away and waited for the cops to show up. took about 3 minutes, decent response time. we didn't open the car yet, we waited for the cop, there was a hand print in the dew on the passenger side window from the guy opening and closing the door. we're not quite sure how they got in, i'm thinking my lock might have been stuck and not totally closed, but the alarm set when i hit lock on the key chain. what you see in the picture is really the extent of the damage. they were scared off by the noise of the alarm and the instant response of Kate to hit all the buttons. basically they opened everything and took a hand full of change. i don't have a GPS in there any more and i really had nothing in the car to take. the trunk got popped but we think Kate did that with the key chain. the cop took our statement and checked some of the cars in either direction of mine. turns out they had hit another one a few cars down. we talked to the cop for a little while and he said it was a fairly common thing around here. these guys just roam the parking lot at night looking for unlocked cars and maybe a GPS or something to grab. he also noted that its mostly just a hassle for them because they never really catch the guys and they don't get more than a few bucks for a stolen GPS. we filled out all the paper work and headed back inside. all told i'm not really missing anything other than a few dollars in change and a few hours sleep. i guess we got lucky. i'm grateful for Kate's panic'd response to a car alarm in the middle of the night, i just rolled over.

lazy sunday - day drinks

i want to go to sleep early tonight so the only logical solution was day drinks. it makes perfect sense to me.

i spent a good amount of time today hanging around, taking care of business and updating my current digital life. bank accounts clean, stocks checked, phone updated, lady taken care of, groceries ordered (amazon, with amazon card), music downloaded (pirate bay is still alive!), Facebook updated, now the blog post. and oh yeah, football.

since i lost 25 lbs i gained 10 back and then lost 5 more, net 20. i need to focus on the net 20+ and keep that. i bought a scale to help keep track. the stress portion fell away, between that and vacation i gained the 10 back. i haven't been running much as of late which i need to change, one reason i want ot go to bed earlier tonight. i also need to start focusing on running further. my current route is just shy of a mile which makes for a nice pre-work jog, but i'm just getting to full heart rate right before i stop, not ideal. i'm looking to my phone to help track progress here.when i got it, i wanted to approach this thing as a tool, not a phone. i wasn't going to baby it and i was going top treat it like my personal tech device. it had to replace my camera, phone, GPS, ipod, laptop, and anything else that was an extra object. i'm doing well with that part. i'm not using it enough to update the digital life like i wanted but that's not a terrible thing. i can do better though. i'm excited at hte prospect of the iphone 5 though, sounds like it'll be a nice update to the 4 i have. i'm a little surprised that apple isn't just offering their products at different screen sizeds yet. the 4" is a phone, the 7", 9" and 11" is a tablet and then there's the 13" and 14" laptop and then all the different TV sizes(32, 40, 46, 52, 60, etc.). i'm assuming that's where technology is headed, all the same software but just pick your different touchscreen size.

one thing that kind of pissed me off today was that when i was updating my google finance portfolios with my stock stuff i realized i hadn't made a single stock trade this year. it's been 10 months since my last trade. bullshit. i can do better than that. one of the problems is that my account isn't doing that bad so it wasn't a priority. but that's not the point. i need to be more active to make more money with it.the ultimate goal is one trade a day, buy or sell. focus man, focus.that was also the problem, i focused on something else over the last 10 months. worth it.

Kate is two thumbs up in my book. If I had to rely on Big Mike and Matt for dating advice, I'd be in trouble.
