huh?

since when did "<3" start meaning heart/love and stop meaning "ballsack"? i much prefer the ballsack meaning, perhaps its context sensitive.

When did it ever mean ballsack??

They look like balls to me

By Anonymous wyld, at Monday, May 02, 2011 11:22:00 PM

my understanding of it has alwayss come from videogames where you drop ballsac's on people when you kill them. <3 Balls!

Fitchburg, MA

oh yeah, the other thing going on in my life is that i'll be actually living in Fitchburg, Mass for most of the summer. i'm taking a temporary position at a sister plant in Fitchburg to help them finish a first article project for the navy. its a generator run by a jet engine to power one of the new stealth destroyers the navy is buying. i'll be living in Fitchburg during the week starting this coming Monday. they work 9days/80hrs so i'll have a bunch of Fridays off and i still need to spend a day every two weeks in Bridgeport at normal work. when i was looking at the project i was actually amazed that it encompasses just about everything I've ever done in my professional life. i worked with the engines at Pratt, built and designed the heat exchangers, made the piping and manufactured the million miles of tubes that surrounds this thing and i've assembled power generators now.

anyone know anything about Fitchburg, MA? i was up there yesterday checking the whole place out and looking at places to stay. i'll be on a fully covered expense report and living out of a hotel. it seems like a pretty neat town, the plant is almost downtown and i'll be able to walk to a ton of stuff.

i'm going to turn off most of my services at my apartment starting with cable. i'll keep internet at a lowered rate but between netflix and hulu i think i'll be pretty set, plus i'll have to buy the MLB.TV package to watch Yankee games up there. as part of this, what everyone's opinion on ipads? i'll save enough by canceling cable that it'll justify the purchase.

last thing, any have a good way of keeping track of expenses? i'll be racking up many daily and i'm sure it'll be a hassle.

I think Liz Ski was getting an Ipad, not sure if she did or not. As far as expenses- just be diligent and use excel? Or keep an seperate account for all reimbursable charges and let the bank keep track of it for you. Plus you can earn points or cash back on their dime.

Re: "...i was actually amazed that it encompasses just about everything I've ever done in my professional life". Oh yeah? Does that include being a pompous know-it-all young punk who thinks he can do better than everyone else around him? Boooom! Just kidding dude.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Thursday, April 28, 2011 3:04:00 PM

no way, it totally applies here, because it does include that. the two quality guys i'm going to be working with both openly admit they don't understand quality, and they only have one ME who is basically a glorified technician. i will once again be in the role of know-it-all. surprisingly, i still find myself being the youngest guy in the room.

Greensboro, North Carolina

Ok, i need some help. anyone have any knowledge of Greensboro, North Carolina? how about North Carolina in general? i'm incredibly curious as i have an opportunity to move there for a significant raise and job advancement. what's caught my eye is that the job is almost perfect for my background, some of the wording was actually word for word from my resume. i'm being asked to fly down next week after two successful rounds of phone interviews. the company has locations in CT as well and in a year or two it may be possible to move back.

next question, what percentage monetary increase would entice you to move to NC? the opening shot is 25%. enough? more? less?

as a side note to this, i'm sitting here on the couch thinking and researching and it hit me. i hadn't even finish reading the job description, but I've passed two rounds of interviews already for it. this made me laugh so hard i cried a little. it was good.

I could never live in NC. My parents loved it, its a conservative paradise.

By Anonymous T, at Thursday, April 21, 2011 8:48:00 PM

25% is significant here, and even moreso there, with the lower cost of living. you may struggle a bit with some aspects of the culture though.

By Blogger josh, at Thursday, April 21, 2011 8:53:00 PM

i'm curious as to how long it'll take to get stabbed for being a yankee. it is NC, but 25% is worth listening too. plus it does sound kind of cool with a possible option to be back in CT at some point. humm...

By Blogger Supreme Monkey Overlord, at Thursday, April 21, 2011 9:12:00 PM

my guess is actually that you'll be the one doing the stabbing. 25% is always worth thinking about.

By Blogger josh, at Thursday, April 21, 2011 10:11:00 PM

I think you should do it. It will be good to live in a new place for a while. I like NC as far as climate and geography-wise. The culture will definitely be more southern and conservative but you just have to find people and things you like. I live in the middle of the deep south, and I've got a nice bubble. I think Greensboro is a college town too, so that helps move culture a bit.

I would never move for 25%, not even down the road which I had a chance to do when MGM opened. I wouldn't even move for 50%, as I love CT, my family and the few friends I have. I like the stability of my job, I'm totally complacent and I make almost enough(no matter what u make u want more). Double and I would think about it.

But if ur not happy where u are and u think this new job is really gonna fit u, I guess u should go for it. And I know where my next family vacation is going to be, north kakalake here we come!

By Anonymous Wyldshaman, at Saturday, April 23, 2011 1:05:00 PM

overall, i agree with brancy. i don't know how much you make these days, but it's more than i do, and i'd consider it for 25% of my salary. greensboro is a college town, and i agree that even in the south you'll be able to find a like-minded group, especially in a place like that.

obviously you need to also take into account things like what you'd be leaving where you are now vs what the new place has. depending on the bump, it might be easy enough to fly back to see friends and family when you wanted (but would you?).

i've actually been thinking about the same sort of thing lately, the (crucial) difference being i do not have a job offer somewhere else. but for those who don't know, things didn't work out with dominique and my sister recently moved to the phoenix area. i also have a feeling my parents will retire out west in the next few years so i'll have to evaluate my situation too.

hopefully you can make joe's bachelor party. if so, i'd definitely be interested in discussing it with you.

By Blogger josh, at Sunday, April 24, 2011 1:14:00 AM

oh yeah i'll be a t joe's, this definitely warrants more discussion.

By Anonymous T, at Wednesday, April 20, 2011 8:18:00 PM

after everyone's good and liquored up we can do whatever we want. we'll be in berlin.

By Blogger josh, at Wednesday, April 20, 2011 9:39:00 PM

Are you indicating that there are no formal plans to involve naked women?

By Anonymous T, at Thursday, April 21, 2011 9:55:00 AM

joe didn't want that, so they couldn't be included in the "formal" plans

By Blogger josh, at Thursday, April 21, 2011 6:48:00 PM

all in on round one? oops, now i'll just have to go keep myself entertained with the stripper out back. ah shucks.

Generally I'm all in for Bacherlor parties, but with the new addition I'm afraid I'll only be doing free comic book day in the morning and then I will be on diaper duty for the evening.
