how many online life's do you have? how many social networking, email, RSS, connections, contacts, logins, Etc. do you have? i spent a few hours today updating some of mine and adding another. I put the effort into my
LinkedIn profile (hand in hand with a nice resume update) and signed up for Facebook. I've been trying to consolidate my contact info that i have in about 10 different locations. gmail, two hotmails (one for crap and the other legit) work email. plaxo, linkedin and now facebook has it. I have contacts for a bunch of people that are outdated and pieces of all of them one palce or another. even some i'd forgotten about like stumbleupon.
this seems to be the new online life. info everywhere, using 10 programs to contact 1000 people. eventually i think we'll all have one online ID, like a liscense or social security number. it'll link to everything. like your google account does. they'll track everything you do easier. i have a Nextel for work so you can GPS my location at any given moment. thinking of killing a hooker tonight? have to remember to leave the celly at home or they'll know your there. your bank accounts will be linked to your cell phone (already true) and more info than you can keep track of about yourself will be readiliy available.
i have 2, the 2 big ones -- myspace and facebook. initially i liked myspace better despite the reputation for stalking and sex predators because it was (and probably still is) easier to customize your profile/info your own way. there are a lot more options, whereas facebook is much more regulated in format and "applications". most facebook applications are strange, useless, and largely ineffective, and often you need to agree to add stuff to your profile to use them.
however, i now use facebook quite frequently because that seems to be the networking site of choice for our generation. i dont view the choice to mainly use facebook as wholly my own, but since i want to keep in touch i use what more people do. facebook is improving a bit and adding more features (features myspace has always allowed, ironically), so i do like it better than i used to. i only log onto myspace 1-2 times per month to see if there's anything from friends who don't have facebook.
