Now here's something worth mentioning:
Did anyone see the debate on NBC tonight? It was the only one these two will have before the August 8 primary that'll determine who the Democratic candidate will be. As a thinking Democrat who voted for Nader in 2000 and got Bush instead, I realize there is a danger here of handing the vote over to a Republican if the vote is split 3 ways as Lamont (Dem), Lieberman (Independent), ____(Republican).
Whether or not you vote for Lamont all hinges on one thing, essentially, since Lamont is running a one-issue campaign. Lieberman sided with Republicans on the war issue. Does that outweigh the experience and congressional seniority Lieberman has, along with the money he can bring to the state as a result? From the way I'm framing this, you can tell that my vote is with Lieberman. Yours? Bergan - I know you're Republican; Ron - I know you abstain altogether.
good to know. we talked about this the other night. there is a huge danger of a split since lieberman has said he'd run as independent if lamont wins the primary.
i havent decided what to do yet. i guess time will tell. we can talk more about it on tuesday macunas.
I heard it would be the other way around too (Lamont running as Independent if Lieberman wins). Either way i suppose.
Ya, i always kinda liked Lieberman for some reason. Even if 'Moveon' is telling me otherwise.
I just wish someone would grow a pair and do something significant. Lamer-man Vs. Lamer does it really fucking make a lick of difference?
Ron, I would consider running against a popular three term Senator who was almost vice president, from within his own party, and causing it to be a national issue as Dems are trying to gain control while like Matt said this could split the vote and let Republicans take a formally Democratic seat, as having a pair. Lamont's campaign is lame, but if I could vote in the primary, I'd vote for him.
Lieberman has been pretty good and predictable on the bills I have been concerned about, but it's just business as usual with him. I think the country is really messed up and I'm not so happy about it or the way things appear to be going, and Lamont seems more like that. I hate how much bullshit there is in politcs, and how much of politics is just politics, without any real substance. If everyone forgot about points like those Matt made in the post and just voted for whomever they most agreed with (including those third parties, because they'd forget they'd be throwing away their vote), then I think we'd have a vastly different and more functional Congress. It is decidedly not business as usual these days.
Macunas... im a little surprised with your stance.
In my mind there really is only one issue, the war, the illegal mess of a war. How can we talk about saving the spotted owl, or getting a better healthcare system when we are raping a country and buring through an easy billion or two a week in the process.
I dont care how environmentally sound Liebermans voting record is, he is a warmonger and a strong supporter of the TERRORIST state of Israel.
How many people must die?
war? are we still at war? I haven't hear much about it lately.
That's because the bodies have been Iraqi.
The Joementum may be flagging, but I'm still supporting him. And it sometimes confuses me too. His political stances lately have been really enigmatic. Considering the fact he's up against a rookie with cash, a vote for Lamont is more like a disapproval vote for Lieberman. Although there's reasons for disapproval, I think as a senior statesman he can do a better job for the state. Oh...did anyone read the article about how an out-of-control old man's car wounded 27 people at SailFest in New London and just about hit Lamont? I was there later that evening for the fireworks - BEST EVER. The Grucci brothers put on a million dollar show and the whole thing was like the grand finale of any other fireworks show. Ill. It was such a bonanza that we saw several bloodied people at different points in the aftermath of fistfights. Sorry I know that's a tangent.
