One drink aint enough man, you better make it three…

Anybody? That’s an easy one.

I attended a small professional meeting today in town. I performed the usual morning primping of myself- shave, tuck in shirt, company logo, no slouching…you know all that jazz. I realized once again (and I say that because I have realized it before) that I was the youngest person in the room by far. And by far I mean the next closest guy was probably at least 10 years older, and the next after him was at least 20 years older. I felt somewhat out of place, not only for that reason, but because the majority of the meeting had nothing to do with anything I do at all. I was asked to attend this meeting by chance that they wanted to talk about my program. But I sedated my sense of uselessness by speaking up toward the end and giving my ‘outside’ perspective on things. Which was taken positively. Yeah…good enough, I thought. At least I said something with somewhat relevancy, somewhat well.

And then we all went to lunch. Be not afraid young Brancibeer! Upon looking around the table I see that everyone is misplaced and self conscious in some respect. So why bother? I’m in everyone else’s boat. The conslutant offered me a job too. Those conslutants always seem to have jobs open. They pay good, but I suppose they should for selling your soul. Fuck off buddy.

Speaking of jobs- did you all know I’m moving into a new one? For a multitude of reasons (career, personal) I pursued an opening in Capital city here in my state. It’s a step up the corporate ladder, and hopefully a step out of this shitty hole of a town I live in now. The prospects look encouraging. Last weekend I secured (what I hope is) a cool place to live. Found the ad on craigslist.com (yay for capital city being on that site). A young married couple was looking to rent out a room in a large house they have recently purchased. I fit the recruit of “young professional or grad student” and they seem happy to have me. They seem cool and the place is really nice (screened porch, wireless internet, 3 bathrooms, rec room, large kitchen/ living room, yard, nice neighborhood, close to work, large room) everything for $500/ mo. Already I have many prospects of new friends and fun activities. The job however, will be…different. I was going to say less exciting, but I don’t want to judge yet. I’m afraid the Rockstar Fucking Biologist will be taking a back burner and making way for Rockstar Fucking Administrator. Well….i can work with that for a while. There’s lots to learn and a whole new type of skill set to master. As Murphy would say, you win some and lose some, now lets get wasted.

But oh, the fun of transitioning. I’m going to drop a lot of shit I’ve acquired over the years (almost 2). Which is fine with me. In with the new, out out out with the fucking old baby. I’m taking that fucking city by storm. I’m feeling it. Good times ahead. Good times.

Hope y’all are doing well, I miss you. I’m up to SC for this weekend for a fun visit to a friend. I’ll leave you with this:

[BB] "Dude! Like...keep you fucking eyes on the road!"
[MB] "I got it man. I'm a professional."
