"Sickening"-ly ironic

This article talks of criticizing US internet companies for cooperating with the Chinese government in the censoring of information and silencing or apprehending dissidents. It links this to human rights violations.

Does anyone else find it laughable that the US government is attacking the likes of Google, Yahoo, and MSN for this? Our Congress would rather talk of restricting these companies' ability to work with the Chinese government, who in turn is being accused of censorship and human rights violations. Rather than go through the trouble of that chain, why not end censorship, the silencing of opposition and human rights violations in the US? Well the human rights bit might not be actually in the US, but in Cuba. Well maybe it is in the US, except that the people who are abducted by the NSA or FBI or whoever under a national security letter are held indefinately without charge (like those in Cuba) and they are not allow to contact anyone, so how do we know how much of that type of rights violation is happening? Oh man, I was just going to post the link and let it the thick irony speak for itself, but here I go on and on.

Damon i know your heart is in the right place, but the Olympics are on right now, and next month is not good either, because thats March Maddness.

Plus we only detain Terrorists in Cuba, its for their own good and the good of the country, thats what Cheney and Bush say. You cant believe everything the Liberal US Press or the UN say on these matters, they are both very corrupt.

And things in Iraq have turned the corner. We are winning.

It's not a time for human rights because you are watching sports on TV? How patriotic of you! You are a true American!

How do we know those in Cuba are terrorists when they haven't even been charged, much less proven guilty. To be an admirable world leader we should give them the rights of Americans to a prompt and fair trial. Do you think that would cause more or less anti American sentiment and hence terrorism? Even if we didn't extend those rights to "enemy combatants," what are Americans who are vulnerable to the same unconstitutional abuses?

And in Iraq, we won years ago, remember?

This is Damon posting as anon because Gentoo knows my password but I don't, and I'm not using it now.

what the hell is winning in iraq anyway?

i'm sick of iraq. i'm sick of hearing the same lies. i'm sick of americans dying to "promote democracy."

fuck 'em. if they want it so bad, they'll get it the way we did. let them fight their own revolution. maybe it's just me, but i dont see imposing our will, culture, traditions, etc as being good for obtaining allies and thwarting terrorism.

we broke it, we bought it. we're going to be there until everythings ok and stable. which may take years. there is no winning this war. terrorism will last forever because just about anything can be called terrorism. and everyone hates us.
