I like pancakes. I don't bake much, can't cook, and am lazy, so I used to get the just-add-water mix. But the American stuff is expensive here, and the Swedish mix is more like crepes, you know kind of chewy rather than light and fluffy. So I googled "cooking for engineers" (with quotes) and it returned over 400,000 sites. I only knew about it from the links on this blog, I had no idea it was so popular ("over 200 GB per month in September 2005"), which is cool because I think the way the recipes are listed there makes so much more sense (that is, it makes any sense, the regular way is just tradition, and has absolutely nothing to do with the way you actually prepare a meal.) I also noticed that at the bottom of the site, it lists the copyright along with "Tabular Recipe Notation Patent Pending." Awesome, the guy gets a BSEE/Comp Sci from Berkeley then his big accomplishment is revolutionizing cookbooks. Anywho, now I just have to figure out Swedish for "baking powder" and such.
Oil-less by 2020, good for Sweden, good for the world.
I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think that by 2020 Sweden will be able to travel around without oil (cars, trains, buses etc). Sure, maybe generated and grid power but transportation... I have my doubts.
Sweden's grid power is already over 97% oil and gas free (it's roughly half hydro and half nuclear,) and the train system buys only renewable power. Most people use public transit. A recent toll to enter Sthlm has reduced city traffic by 30%. Saab makes a version of the 9-5 that runs on Ethanol, which is widely available here. Sweden could be oil-less by 2015 if they wanted, but they already use so little, they don't make it a priority.
Well Damon, this is your ballgame, make it happen. I'll stick to FEA, maybe someday I'll design some wind turbines.
