Success at the cost of information

computer problems suck.

recently i was having problems with a trojan hijacking my internet connection and sending massive amounts of data upstream. every antivirus, spyware, ad blocker, reinstalation of windows (twice) and system restore did nothing. format fixed that. now i'm clean of any bug and all the crap i've accumulated on here. now all i have to do is repeat the process on my parents computer. if anyone knows of a way to get rid of the MyBar/MyWay problem, or even a way to monitor whats being uploaded let me know. Also i now have DSL at my house. welcome charlotte to the 21st centuary.

i've been away from the blog and haven't posted in a while. the month+ long road trip took care of that. good to see josh and branciforte again. visiting Murphy's dad fills in all the genetics related misconceptions i had about the family. i understand completely now. although i've taken my trifecta of vacations, its not over yet. march 20th or so i'll be in tampa with the family for yankee baseball. fuck yeah. i might start looking for a job until then since unemployment has now run out and i have no income. it felt nice to be geting paid to slack off and now that i'm missing that floatation device i'm on my own.

watched the first spring training baseball game today. mets/nationals, not bad. it was nice to see baseball again. i've missed it. i can only take so many baseketball highlights and meaningless football talk. has anyone heard what the giants are going ot do? there's a bunch of good free agents out there but they don't seem involved in any of them. seeing as how we don't have a first round draft pick any more it'd be nice to use that money on a free agent.

speaking of computers, dell sucks. dell computers can like my nuts. dell technicians can lick my nuts. dell helpdesk people can lick my nuts. anyone associated with dell can lick my nuts. anyone who says dell can lick my nuts. i will never again buy a dell. dude, i'm not gettin a dell.

wow, never expected an anti-dell rant, i've never had anything but luck with them. my only complaint is that most of their machines are built way too cheaply now a days but thats really it. my laptop is an HP and so far so good. i've had friendly conversations with the tech people over the problems i just had. i want to get a new desktop when (or if ever) i get a job, and i was thinking of just playing it safe and getting a dell. i'd love to piece my own togeather but i just don't have the capacity to do so anymore. i've fallen behind in computer knowledge. plus there's no nerd living down the hall from me anymore like at school. when my sister has problems with hers i tell he to flirt with a nerd. they're always handy to have around.

i feel ya josh, i think that i'm going to have two seperate computers when i..... transition to the next stage of my life i guess. one for internet purposes and the other for pics, music, porn ...etc so that way when the internet one gets all fucked up i can just format it. i'll use burned dvd's or usb key's to transport files back and forth as needed.

Maybe a dead topic, but I can't believe I didn't use this to plug Linux. Running no antivirus, no firewall, no spyware cleaners, nada, I've had a clean version of SuSE 9.2 for about a year. Go Linux, though no distro is perfect: http://enterprise.linux.com/article.pl?sid=05/03/01/2248250

I'm using a 3 year old HP laptop that has never really had a problem, though I did the difficuly disassembly once to clean the dusty heat sink that was causing overheating and spontaneous shutdown. Not tempted by new ones that offer a little high clock speed, less ram, a smaller screen, and bit bigger drive, wow, all that for only a month's pay!?

I thought Dell was pretty good, because they used good name brand components, maybe not anymore. Try CyberPower http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/ for complete control over every little detail of your system for a unbeatable value. I got one for my parents and it functions pretty well as it should with good design. It runs HL2 well with a middle of the road graphics card and AMD64.

i saw the linux comments coming a mile away. i'd love to switch and i've been saying that for years but most of the stuff i use the computer for can't be done on linux. highend games, downloading porn, massive music transfers, sorry, i'm just not able to comply yet. plus there are no viruses for linux, people who use it are the ones creating them for windows. its like macs, its not that they aren't suseptable to viruses and spyware, people just aren't attacking them with it.

i've also had to clean the heat sink on mine to stop over heating, i was amazed at how much shit built up in there.

Twenty out of 120 Gigs on my computer are devoted to my Linux partition. I never use it much, however. It's good to have as backup because we all know it's more reliable than Windows.
Did I mention everyone should download the Firefox browser? It's from the makers of Mozilla and Linux open-source style pazzazz. I swear by it. www.firefox.com
