back, again

once again back its the incredible, rhyme animal, the un-canable - B public enemy number one

I'm back once again. fresh from an intensive viewing of the yankees spring training system/atmosphere. legeands field is fucking sweet. i went to 4 games in 6 days, 3 at the yankees stadium and 1 in clearwater where the phillies play (against the yanks). it was an amazing feat to see some of this stuff. i had been there two years ago and saw one spring game in tampa, it was great but this time was different. The best word to describe it would be- - - Japanese. matsui is so fucking popular over there people are flocking to spring games to see him. the number of japanese media covering him well out-numbered the american media there. one of my morning routines was to read the local paper, and one day i read an article about how much japanese tourism has increased because of matsui. on the way home i was playing my gameboy in the airport when i was assulted by two young japanese kids (maybe 6 and 8) egar to watch me play it. very akward at first until i struck a conversation with their parents about how they have come to see matsui. before the games when they warm up and take batting practice on the practice field is was a zoo just to get near the fence and see matsui. i half expected to see kenny mayne there doing a sportcenter skit. crazy stuff.

my spring impressions about hte club: 1) pitching won't be a problem unless the relievers get hurt and 2) LET THE KIDS PLAY! there were some very impressive rookies getting some time on the field. Canu is going to be a star when womack is done with second base, andy phillips may beat out tino by the end of the season for the everyday firstbase job and russ johnson could kick rey sanchez out of the back up infield job. Bubba crosby and collin porter are going to fight for a fith outfield spot and poor damien rolls is going to go the way of doug glanvile and get his ass cut before opening day. some of these guys are not that young anymore, phillips is 27 and was moved from third to first when a-rod arrived. may be an unexpected youth insurgence in NY.

the difference between spring training for NY and for the phillies was apparent in the first ten minutes of entering the ballpark. tickets were cheaper, easzier to find, less fans total, beer was 3.00$ instead of 6, no one noticed if guys like utley, rollins and thome played or not and there were hooters girls everywhere. it had a much more laid back atmosphere and almost a minor league setting. it was amazing to see how many people swarm the yankees in the spring just to get a glace at guys like torre and giambi (who was on a PR good will tour by signing everything).

time to piss and go to sleep.
