Ok, so I haven't been a fan of comic book movies- the new batman, spider man, fantastic 4, hulk, etc. They have all been corny and lame. BUT I went to see Ironman last night and loved it. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Mostly due to Robert Downey Jr's performance.
Anyone see the preview for the next Batman? I can't freakin believe they are already re-doing the first story line (Batman 1 with Michael Keeton). You can't beat Jack Nicholson as joker...this new guy looks terrible. In fact the whole movie looks terrible. The new hulk looks stupid too. And M. Nigh Shamylan has never made a decent movie is his life. I don't know why he keeps plastering his name on the movie titles. That is all.
iron man was good definitly, however batman begins was really good too. i like the xman series alot. the hulk sucked balls thats why i think there doing another won so recently after the other on came out with a completely different hulk/cast, it could be good though. wether or not the newest batman sucks remains to be seen, i like the idea of the darknight thing cause there are so many other series of offshoots to the batman story. i fully agree with how much M Knight shmalayan movies suck plus i hate that kind of movie anyway
first off, the list of movies you cite only scratches the surface of what should be considered "comic book" movies. what about films like American Spledor? 300? A History of Violence? Wanted? 30 days of Night? Ghost Rider? Sin City? V for Vendetta? do most people just not know these were first comics? i have a signed copy to the 30 days of night GN that prove its older and better. i know of a ton more that weren't successful and as i spread this list it will only help to show that most comic movies suck. remember Tank girl? barbwire? Judge Dredd? Daredevil?
Its also hard to judge these movies against the comics when some of them are changed dramatically from the original source content. i hate to say it, but the universe that will be presented in the next dozen of marvel movies will actually be their third attempt at creating the marvel universe. they have the original which is massive and sprawling and so damn drenched in continuity that they couldn't fix it if they wanted to, the second is the "Ultimate" universe where they recreated it for modern times, not modern times of the 50's or when we were still fighting Nazi's. that was how captain America started out.they stream lined the universe down to only the important characters and kept the whole thing simple. the third is this movie universe where they try to do it with million dollar budgets. there was a shot of captain America's shield on tony starks bench in iron man and if any of you stayed to the very very VERY end there was a nice cameo of nick fury played by Samuel L jackson that hinted at a much bigger universe. the next hulk will also be tied into it followed by captain America and Thor and then an Avengers movie after those in the next 5 years.
ironman was sweet. robert downey jr IS tony stark. smart rich playboys always in troouble and constantly getting away with it. he was perfect for it. and although i hate Gweneth she was pretty good in it. pluse the suit didn't suck. that was huge. the movie doesn't work if the suits look stupid. none of them do. the 3rd and 4th batmans? retarded. i like a lot of the newer movies, xmen and spiderman (why does he have to take his mask off all the time?) were good.
M night shamalama ding dong owes me 2 hours of my life back for The Village. what kind of bullshit was that.
300, Judge Dredd, Tank Girl and V for Vendetta, were all freaking fantastic movies!
Sometimes i think people dont see the comic book quality carry over into the cinema and that may be true, but in retrospect or perspective, they are good.
Spartans, Mega-cities surrounded by desert, Kangaroo people, Totalitarian states needing an overthrow, these movie(as the comics) were ahead of their time or on time.
I wasn't a fan of the new batman. For the action (fighting) scenes they utilize a variety of very close-up shots over and over. For example they fill the screen with a fist hitting a chest and speed it up. Its a cheesy way to give the appearance of action, while not actually showing anything real or talented. Thats what ruined it for me. 300 was good even though it was mostly computer animated. I'd rather have that.
Don't forget about Hellboy. I believe there's a sequel coming out this summer. And the new terrible Joker was played by Heath Ledger, so we won't have to worry about seeing him in anything ever again!

so we've invaded mars. i hope it still has oil. i bet the martians were cool shit.
i like the fact that we're going to mars. even if it doesn't come back with anything spectacular, we still were able as a society able to send something to mars. pretty damn cool. fuck yeah mankind. despite the endless war and never ending line of retarded leaders, at least we got to mars. i personally would love to see more space travel, only because i think the ultimate goal of mankind should be to get off this planet. its about survival of the species people. these petty land struggles should be beneath us and prosperity should be rampant around the globe. we need to spead to other world in case we loose one. or we fuck it up. a meteor could hit the moon tomarrow and fuck up all our oceans and end life as we know it. i think wed have a bad chance of surviving some kind of global disaster. we need to colonize other planets and spread amongst the cosmos. the sooner the better.
Agreed. Let's start laying the groundwork friday. Once we finish with Mars, I say we move onto to Europa (its been eyeballing me since the day we met).
Sort of...womens roller derby. Its tradition to have an after-party at each bout. And its tradition to have leg wrestling contests at said after-parties. I reffed the bout and the wrestling. Good times.
