golf

matt, this would probably be of interest to you the most:

http://www.bagsct.com/

in 2010 they're starting a CT division of the league i play. i figured you and/or kolpak (or others) might be interested.

generally, it's like a $100 fee for the year plus greens fees. if you dont have an official handicap (i dont) they'll give you one based on what you normally shoot, and as you play more in league events they'll adjust it for you. there are generally at least 2 tourneys a week (1 weekday, 1 weekend) and you just pick and choose which you do/do not want to play. with your handicap you're automatically eligible to win money off future greens fees, and there are extra bets you can make each tourney too. check out the website for all the details, i actually like the layout and content of the CT website more than mine, it's pretty clear and comprehensive.

at the very least, it has a list of the courses it will include that could serve as a great directory of good CT courses. i know it definitely has some in your area too. i looked at the directory quickly and hadn't heard of a lot of the courses, but when i went to the course websites they looked pretty nice.

Matt Barone: the man who still has a left thumb!

working in manufacturing, its only a matter of time before you lose a finger. i came close this morning. i got my thumb stuck between two metal plates driven by an air cylinder. i spent the morning at the clinic and x-rays turned out negative. my thumb's got a couple of good cuts on it and the nail is going to come off at some point but for what i got caught in i'm very lucky. there's 5 why's, fishbones and all sorts of crazy accident reporting going on right now. i was really just holding the part wrong and got it caught on the up movement while i was adjusting the part. it sucked but i'll be ok, in about two weeks.

UPDATE: well i'm actually amazed at the progress of my thumb, it's looking good, no visible signs of anything except the black under my nail. i think the nail is going ot stay on now, its actually starting to clear up a little. it still hurts to push with it but the swelling is almost completely gone and i can use it to grasp light stuff. the skin on my thumb got a little funky from having it wrapped in gauze and goo for a week and a half but thats clearing up too.

Sell Sell Sell!

DOW ended at over 10K today for the first time in a year. Did you buy low? I did a little, but not too much.

Where's it headed? Your financial predictions are always welcome on this blog.

i've been kicking myself for not buying more earlier. i'm going to sell on this up swing and wait a little bit. i think some of the fourth quarter numbers are going to look really good again after all the sitmulus money has finished trickeling down and boost consumer confidence again after a lull.

I sold everything in 2007 before a hint of a decline, anticipating not this crisis, but the one that will result from the markets realizing we've past peak oil. That one hasn't happened yet, so in the long term, I think our financial system is shot. It's built on cheap oil, cheap labor, ever increasing productivity, a unsustainable short-term perspective, outsourced everything and now just inventing financial gadgets that don't even do anything. No idea where the short term market is going.

I love how "increased productivity," really means, "some people got laid off and others are doing more work."

Lets go yanks! (and those poor, poor red sox)

watching this past series i can't help but think that everything is going exactly according to plan. A-rod is hitting everything, tex is homering, CC and AJ both pitched as they were paid to, pettite was solid, jeter is still the man. its all going according to plan. except the sox lost. we were supposed to run them over in the ALCS and go on to win the series convincingly, so far everything is going perfect in the first year of a new stadium.

Paps lost the game but the Sox lost this series abut two weeks ago, they stumbled into the playoffs and have been playing like shit for the last month. it showed in the playoffs. the angles are a good team so don't take anything away from them but the Sox should have done better.

PS: anyone else notice how bad the umps have been this post season? there was absolutly no excuse for missing that call down the left field line that mauer hit when melky tipped it and they said it was foul. the ump was like 10 feet from the ball looking right at it and still got the call terribly wrong, even if it was in the yanks favor. watching the tigers/twins play-in game, the homeplate ump was calling guys out on balls a foot off the plate. the umps my not want instant replay, but they are giving MLB every reason they can to get it going.

yeah, the red sox really blew it. disappointing after a decent season, except for the last 2-3 weeks. the angels should give the yanks a good challenge, but we'll see. i'm kinda pulling for colorado to come thru the nl, but if that happens i think they'll get run over in the world series again. i think the phils would give the al the best shot.

give the dodgers some credit, they have a bunch of good pitching. i think they beat the phils. yanks/ngels will be a better match up than any WS match up will be.

You should have that checked by a doctor. I had a cousin die from a bad case of crotch-light just like that.
