funny

i thought lieberman's whole thing was that even as an independent he'd align with democrats? what a douchebag.

He does on mostly everything except the war.

Bush is starting to infuriate me again (its been dormant for a while). How can he be so stubborn and arrogant when the majority of government and the american people are seeking dealines for pullout?

And now we have Iran acting out. That shit worries me. America is NOT safer. We are more hated than ever before, and our army and $ are depleted to dangerous levels.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Thursday, March 29, 2007 2:23:00 PM

Bush is out of touch beyond description when both houses pass bills with deadlines and he still talks like it's total nonsense and he'll veto it. Never mind that Congress is still about a year behind public opinion. Too bad we're not actually a democracy because we'd have been out of Iraq awhile ago, oh yeah we wouldn't have gone in.

The Irainian Supreme Council has deemed those British sailors "enemy combatants" and they will be tried by a Revolutionary Guard military tribunal, all on the up-and-up. Since they already confessed to their crimes its not looking good and will most likely be hung in public. But it seems they will get a faster trial then those at old Gitmo and maybe even less torture was involved.

By Blogger wyldshaman, at Monday, April 02, 2007 8:29:00 AM

While that is unfortunate for those involved and their families, let's hope the Administration can take a lesson to see what our policies look like from the other side. But you're right, they avoid rotting away without charges for 5 years, which is a benefit.

Don't make me make a decision.....

That was the thought screaming through my head saturday evening I was was sitting there with my latest dating experiment watching some tv. She was starting to express some concern over my racing and training schedule. I didnt want to get into any long drawn out bullshit (because I had to leave, Bethel race next morning) so I just acknowledged that yes, we do only hang out when I can hang out. Ahh, in retrospect I should have seen it coming a mile away....

(March 5th conversation after first Bethel race weekend)
girl: So how did you do in your race?
me: Good, I took 3rd in the field sprint 5th over all.
girl: thats good.....
me: yea I felt a little confused and tired for the second race and I finishe in the pack. I should do better next week.
girl: umm?? next week?
me: yea......I though I made it clear that I'll be racing on average 3 weekends a month until july or so.
girl: yea, well... are we ever going to be able to hang out on the weekends and ....(trails off or I stopped listening)

The red flag went off right there. She's jealous of the bike.
Now of course this story isn't complete and I'm leaving of some important details but I was getting the feeling that this one has an idea that relationships are like velcro.

On the phone the other night, as soon as I heard the words "we should talk", I did a little happy dance. I was like "Yes! shes' unhappy so this is going to be really easy." There were some awkward pauses in there but it was quick and painless (for me). I think she was waiting for me to say something like "I'll try harder to make more time because you're a great girl". But I've been down that road before and I know the limits of my compromise abilities. Instead she got lines resembling "I made a decision earlier this year to cycle and if I compromise that I'll become super passive aggressive and end up hating you for keeping me off the bike".

Hanging up the phone it hit me what a sick man I am. I just gave up a decent looking nice girl so I can spent more time humping my cannondale.

hahahaha that's a great story ron. you gotta find a biker girl.

By Blogger josh, at Tuesday, March 20, 2007 11:15:00 PM

You're making my Cannondale jealous, but of course it's an old p.o.s. not a young hottie like yours. Seriously, a biker chick would be a good idea; fit, hot legs, understands your needs.

By Blogger Damon, at Wednesday, March 21, 2007 8:00:00 AM

I know nothing gets me off like cold aluminum across the groin. Oh baby...

Well its obvious here that your satisfying your manly urge to be able to date women by maintaining control over the situation. I.E- I'm the fucking man, i can bang bitches, not feel shit, and be happy riding my bike. Not a bad place to be. You also seem to display an honest and unusual internal clarity about the variables of your situation. I.E.- I know exactly why i feel this way, how i feel, why i'm doing it, and how the bitches will react to it. The troubles come when you lose control or clarity on those variables. But for now, shit, keep peddling toward victory.

And btw...your the guy all these chicks can't seem to understand, and end up bitching to their girlfriends (or ex-bf's) about. Way to keep em guessing.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Wednesday, March 21, 2007 10:19:00 AM

While I'm unlikely to become a race addict like you, I'm gonna be a medical guinea pig for $1300 which will buy a new road bike. What do you think of a '06 Felt F-80 with all 105 for $800? I need a triple to do some gaps around here, and could spend a bit more but have a low $/g threshold. They have CAAD8's too, for more money with worse components, but '07's maybe.

By Blogger Damon, at Wednesday, March 21, 2007 12:54:00 PM

i'm pretty sure what damon wrote was in english, but all i understood was "race...pig...maybe."

By Blogger josh, at Wednesday, March 21, 2007 2:58:00 PM

Damon, F-80 seems like a good deal (as long as it fits). I couldn't find any weight specs for the 07 but w/ 105 components, a metal steerer on the fork, and shit wheels/tyres, I'm guessing it will be a few pounds overweight (21 or so). You may want a triple if its hilly around you. I read that the frames aren't as stiff as Cannondale's, so you should get a comfy ride if thats what your looking for. Also, swapping in a full carbon fork and stem will go a long way for comfort. You may want to look for an F75 because of the carbon seat stays.

Another thing is it's got a 9sp drive train. If you get this you should blow out the drive train then at the minimum get ultegra 10sp. The new SRAM stuff is super pimp also. The frame looks hot, I dig the yellow.

So if it fits, I'd say its a good buy.

I'm in too. I prefer the "stock market" type if they have it. That one you did last time was s-h-i-t-t-y, shitty.

i don't think too many places do the stck market type anymore. the last one we did is by far the most popular and widly utilized. i'll have to check. my preference is for hte ESPN one but i'm not really that picky on what site or what type we use

finally, baseball

Ok so I’ve promised a series of baseball related articles for some time now. Well here’s the first, a recap of how I did last year with my predictions. Let’s start in the al east;

Predicted order of finish:

Yankees
Red sox
Blue jays
Orioles
Devil rays

Actual order of finish;

Yankees
Blue jays
Red sox
Orioles
Devil rays.

Not much here, the blue jays took second in the final week of the season due to the red sox having a rash of late season injuries and just giving up. The blue jays had a good season and should be just as good this year making the east a three team battle instead of a two team derby. I predicted a total collapse from mike mussena and that didn’t happen but i was right about randy Johnson sucking and pavano and Wright being hurt most of the year. I mentioned schilling should be ok and he was and that mike Lowell will suck, which he didn’t. Those fly balls that used to be long outs are now doubles off the monster. I nailed the orioles and the devil rays. I mentioned the rays were trying to get rid of Aubrey Huff, Julio Lugo and Joey Gathright. Well they did. Lugo went to LA and gaithright to “somewhere to rot” and huff to Houston. They didn’t do very good in what they received for these players but it could have been worse.

Al central;

Predicted order of finish:

Chicago white sox
Twins
Indians
Tigers
Royals

Actual order of finish;

Twins
Tigers
White sox
Indians
Royals

Well I got the royals right. The twins took first on the last day of the season and the tigers had an amazing season. The white sox pitching just got older and the Indians had a bullpen that destroyed their whole season. I mentioned the white sox will be in trouble if they start to use their bullpen and that was true, plus Brian Andersen in center never worked out for them. The twins got an amazing performance from Francisco liriano (who I was right about) but he went down at the end of the season with elbow surgery. That killed them in the playoffs. I was totally wrong about the tigers. Pudge, Ordonez, bonderman and Rodgers all had great years and they actually went to the World Series. The royals still suck.

AL West;

Predicted order of finish:

Oakland A’s
Angels
Rangers
Mariners

Actual Finish;

A’s
Angels
Rangers
Mariners

Nailed it. The whole thing. Each team. Sometimes I amaze even myself. Called frank Thomas getting hurt during the season, the A’s great pitching and Crosby getting hurt. Called the angels getting rid of tim salmon and having great young kids playing (jared weaver and howey kendricks). I called the rangers getting nothing from pitching and the mariners just generally sucking. The mariners made more stupid moves this year in the same vein but that’s for later. Hit this whole division on the head.

NL East;

Predicted order of finish:

Braves
Mets
Phillies
Nationals
Marlins

Actual Order;

Mets
Phillies
Braves
Marlins
Nationals

Well the braves got killed with no pitching and the mets did better then expected as well as the marlins. The mets weren’t as old as I thought. This whole division was very close at the end of last year. The marlins were actually only a few games out of the wildcard. The nationals had a bigger collapse then expected and the marlins kids did great. Much better then expected. I was way too high on the braves and thought they’d actually get some good work out of tim Hudson and mike Hampton. They didn’t have any rookies step up either and the kids who did good the year before didn’t last year. Oh well. The nationals finally got sold but still made some bad moves. They should have traded soriano instead of letting him walk in free agency, instead they traded livan Hernandez. Great. Now they have even less pitching and no great draw to the ball park. Nick Johnson once again got hurt ( that was an easy call). I didn’t think the marlins were going to be anything let alone uggla a rookie of the year candidate. Dontrell took my advice and took it easy for most of the year but I think that has to do with the World Baseball Classic more then them sucking. They got a ton of great performances real quick from the young guys.

NL Central;

Predicted order of finish:

Cardinals
Astros
Brewers
Cubs
Reds
Pirates

Actual Order of Finish;

Cardinals
Astros
Reds
Brewers
Pirates
Cubs

I was right on with the cardinals and the astros. I was a little high on the brewers and expected them to come along a little faster. They missed ben sheets a lot because he was hurt and he’s their ace. No one expected the cubs to collapse like that but I wasn’t very high on them anyway. I didn’t see the reds doing much of anything but arroyo did great and they hit as usual. They made a ton of moves around the deadline for relievers but they really didn’t get much out of it. A lot of disappointments in the trades they made. Can’t blame them though, they had a good chance to win the division but they just kept falling apart and no matter what they tried it just didn’t work. And the pirates still suck, the cubs just happened to suck more last year.

NL West:

Well I didn’t do the NL west. Oops. Either way I remember saying it would be a crap shoot and in the end it wouldn’t matter because no matter what team won it, they’d lose in the first round of the playoffs. And that did happen. The dodgers actually made the wildcard but they lost as well in the first round. I expected some of the central teams to put up more of a fight but the astros were just too far behind when Clemens came back and the reds just couldn’t stop the bleeding late in the season.

Over all I did pretty good. The Al east was good and the red sox just kind of gave up once they weren’t going to make the postseason with injuries and the jays snuck in. the tigers had a season for the ages and I didn’t see that happening in a million years. I nailed the west. In the NL I expected the mets to be older and the braves to be wiser, neither was true. The central was pretty good but the cubs just blew up and the reds really fought it out. I missed the west but the wild card ended up come from there so I should have been a little higher in the dodgers and padres. The giants, d’backs and rockies all basically tied for last.

i'll bet you can nail the royals again this year. and no worries about the nl west, i'm pretty sure no one out there even matters (no, not even bonds. if he breaks the record, huge huge HUUUUUUGE asterisk).

Coincidentally, my professor used the n-word in a class of graduate and undergraduate students today. Specifically: “We can’t be treating the work studies like they’re our n***ers.” I’m wondering if he’s going to feel any backlash from that...

By Blogger d$, at Monday, March 12, 2007 2:22:00 PM

Well thats totally inappropriate. What good are work studies if you can't treat them like crap.

"The FBI has developed a new form of electronic surveillance, which remotely activates a mobile telephone’s microphone and uses it to eavesdrop on nearby conversations. The technique, called a “roving bug,” was approved by the Justice Department for use in criminal investigations. U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan upheld its legality, noting that the eavesdropping technique “functioned whether the phone was powered on or off.” Nextel and Samsung handsets and the Motorola Razr are especially vulnerable to the technique, according to counter-surveillance consultant James Atkinson, who told CNET News that the only practical defense against roving bugs is to remove the batteries from cellphones when they aren’t in use."

Wow, that's pretty impressive and you'd think that the manufacturer would have to build that kind of functionality in.

I think Gore might put his hat in last minute. Its all about strategy.

By Blogger Brancibeer, at Thursday, March 08, 2007 4:42:00 PM

Edwards/Clark is my pick, i think Edwards has a really good shot he is ahead in early primary state polls, and is talking alot of Populism and bringing the USA back to the moral high ground.

By Blogger wyldshaman, at Friday, March 09, 2007 8:26:00 AM

Oh, i was also chatting with Tim about Gore; my thinking on him is if something big happens, like Miami gets wipped out by Cat. 5 Hurricane, this summer, Gore enters the race as the Anti-Global Warming Candidate, and i think he will walk right into the Presidency.

By Blogger wyldshaman, at Friday, March 09, 2007 8:31:00 AM

Well thats wishfull thinking Jessie. We can only pray that a Cat 5 wipes out Miami.

Yes, it tis jess. She graduated law school and joined the Navy Jag. She's currently going to Justice School in RI i think. (I like to call it "Freedom" school). After a couple months of that she is assigned to JAX, FL.
